Defining the Situation

Today, the most common contributor to accidents out on the roadways in the United States is that of reckless driving. However, what is reckless driving? Reckless driving is when a motor vehicle operator is behind the wheel of a car and has averted their attention away from the matter of driving, and their safety to something menial that simply is a distraction that dangerously is putting everyone at risk of an accident. Usually individuals accomplish reckless driving by talking or texting on their cellphones, playing with their radio consoles, or simply just not caring to concentrate on the matters at hand.

Speeding: A Harsh Contributor to Your DUI

Tuesday, April 3rd, 2012

When an individual drives they have a responsibility not only to their self, but also every other individual that is out on the road no matter if they are pedestrians, cyclists, or other motor vehicle operators. When an individual gets behind the wheel of a vehicle while being intoxicated or while participating in the usage of other drugs they are committing a crime that can not only result in them in legal trouble, but also injured or killed. However, one thing that many individuals participate in every single day no matter their sobriety level is speeding.

Speeding is looked at in the eyes of many as a minor thing, and most see it as not even a crime. If you were to look out the window of your motor vehicle you would notice a few drivers going faster than the others, or even that you are going a little fast as well. However, speeding not only raises the likelihood of an accident occurring, but also begins to involve more individuals that one could expect.

When you not only drive while under the influence of alcohol or other substances, but also speed the results can be catastrophic that end up with anguish, and pain with anyone that was touched by the incident in any way.

For some reason, many individuals believed that when they are signaled by a law enforcement officer to pull over for either speeding, or drinking and driving that they have the option to completely keep going and escape the situation. However, this is real life and not the movies, and individual’s lives and well-being are at stake.

Last month, an incident took place that not only involved an individual drinking and driving, but also speeding on top of it all. An officer flashed his lights at a man that was swerving in between two lanes, and as a result the vehicle sped off in an attempt to ignore the incident. The drunken man got up to speeds of 100mph with passengers in his car, and after being pursued by officers was eventually apprehended at gunpoint in order to cease further driving.

Later the woman within the vehicle said that she was lucky to be alive and did not think that he would have stopped until they were dead. Yes, we all make mistakes and drinking and driving is one of them. However, do not make another mistake on top of that of speeding and endangering everyone’s lives anymore than necessary. If you are pulled over for drunken driving remember you have options, especially with an experienced DUI attorney on your side.

Aggressive Driving within Pennsylvania

Monday, August 1st, 2011

Drivers in Pennsylvania can attain traffic tickets through a variety of violations such as: driving drunk, reckless driving, speeding on the road, and avoiding a police officer. These are just a few of the more commonly known offenses, but traffic violations can be very severe, particularly if the driver has already received many previous traffic citations. Having many traffic violations can be the ruination of any reputation and permanent record. Also, the public presumes drivers who have accumulated many vehicular offenses, as disreputable and reckless. All of these violations are very serious transgressions for anyone, and now it seems that Pennsylvania drivers could possibly receive another type of traffic offense called “aggressive driving”.

Law officers are now planning to work together to penalize and punish any and every driver who they find to be driving aggressively; and law enforcement officers can easily spot aggressive drivers. This new pursuance of aggressive drivers stems from the Smooth Operator Program. The Smooth Operator Program provides law officers the chance to concentrate on drivers who neglect red lights and drive way too close to the vehicles in front of them. The Smooth Operator Program was established fourteen years ago, and takes place in the summers, when there are more drivers on the highways taking vacations, and traveling all over the country. Nationally, statistics show that three-fourths of car accidents are due to aggressive driving.

Due to the Smooth Operator Program, police officers can pull over drivers who are seen violating any of these four offenses: neglecting a red light, being too close to another car, riding on the center of the highway, and using the shoulder to pass another car. Aggressive driving penalties include: five points on the license of the driver, and a three-hundred-and-seventy dollar ticket that requires payment. Many Pennsylvania operators could find themselves in this type of fix this upcoming summer.

Five points on any driver’s license at one time can lead to the suspension of that license; which would be a serious inconvenience for the driver. Also when drivers are charged with these types of offenses, it is extremely beneficial to take initiative and seek the knowledge of someone who is well versed in the law and could help the driver to reduce their consequences, and possibly even have the offense taken off their permanent record.
