Why You Shouldn’t Pass a School Bus

Friday, November 4th, 2011

Different crimes have different penalties. Some crimes are punished with a suspended license, jail time or fines. Everyone knows that you can get your drivers license suspended for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, but did you know that your license could be suspended for passing a school bus? It is illegal when you drive around a school bus when it has the “stop” arm sticking out for children to cross the street. We have all been in that situation where you’re late for work or in a rush for something, and of course you get stuck behind a school bus that is taking kids home.

The school bus stops every two minutes to let out children that just mosey across the street. They are not aware or do not care about the fact that you have somewhere to be. Traffic gets backed up, and drivers get frustrated. Every time you pass a street, you’re hoping the bus will turn, but it never does.  You may want to pass the bus, but you shouldn’t. It never fails that as soon as you pull around the bus, blue lights appear in your rear view mirror. Illegal passing of a school bus results in a suspended license. Having a suspended license is incredibly inconvenient. You can’t drive to make a quick trip to the grocery store or out to pick up dinner or more importantly, drive to work. Having a suspended license can pose a huge imposition on you, your friends, or your family.

Police officers are cracking down on these types of law violations. If you are caught passing a school bus, you could also be looking at a fine and points deducted from your license on top of the suspension. When a license is suspended, it is usually taken away for 60 days. That can really pose a problem if you have work or school every day. The only way to prevent this is to be extremely caution while you are driving, especially around school busses. Safety is such an issue with children, so it is less likely that an officer will be lenient with this type of traffic violation. It is much better to be five minutes late than to get caught doing something illegal and have your license suspended for 60 days.

More Penalties Can Occur From License Suspension in Pennsylvania.

Driving. It is what many rely on to get from home to work, from work to the gym, and to start the process over daily. Many use driving not only as a form of getting from point A to point B, but also as a pleasurable form of vacation travel. However, this can truly impact someone whose license is suspended, which can turn from easy to frustrating. Public transportation turns to be a lifestyle requirement, rather than that of an option to simply just go to the grocery store, or pick up their children from a child care program.

However, if a driver is stopped and currently holds a suspended license, many penalties can be issued and enforced that can simply change simply not driving from a short period of time to much serious, permanent instances. Some instances cause a driver to serve a sentence or time within probation or could be asked to pay traffic fines for the incidents by the court of law.

Recently, a councilman from a local city was driving with a suspended license and obtained two charges as a result of the incident. He was already currently in possession of former convictions associated with driving while having a suspended license, and was even sentenced by the court of law to probation for six months after the councilman admitted to driving around the overall area without the possession of a valid, current license. However, his total compliance with the charges and sentencing is still unsure as well as any fines that were applicable.

Yet, the councilman also was seen driving still not holding a valid license only weeks after the court sentencing and overall media focus with the situation. With examples of public officials committing such acts, it can only the leave the door to possibilities open for individuals who commit more dangerous, intense act of violence. However, the state has recognized the issue not only with the councilman, but also as a whole. Those who are caught while driving with a suspended license, can and will expect to receive a fine, the possibility of a conviction as well as time in jail, and their license to be indefinitely removed from the possibility of present and future use at all. Laws are there to be an innate understanding to all about certain issues, and with those laws you can expect that if they are not followed that you will receive the consequences.
